Dr Achal Mehra – Professor & Dean
Dr. Achal Mehra was most recently Institute Chair, Professor of Journalism, Dean of Strategic Planning & Special Initiatives, and Coordinator of the Design & Innovation Center at IIT Gandhinagar.
He served as Assistant Professor of Journalism and head of the News Editorial Sequence (1983-1985) at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, and Associate Professor and Director of the Communications Program (1989-2001) at Albright College, Reading, Pennsylvania. Earlier, he headed professional training programs at the Asian Mass Communication Research and Information Center in Singapore (1987-1989) and was an editorial consultant to Xinhua in Beijing China (1985-1986).
Prof Mehra is editor and publisher of Little India magazine, the largest circulated Indian publication in the USA, and its online websites, LittleIndia.com and BiggerIndia.com, which have won 21 Ippie Awards from the Independent Press Association of New York. He has published extensively both in academic journals and professional media. He is author/editor of several books on the mass media, including: Free Flow of Information: A New Paradigm; Newspaper Management in the New Multimedia Age; Press Systems in Asean States and Communication Development and Human Rights in Asia (with Cees J. Hamelink).
His research interests cover Online Media, Media Management, Investigative Reporting, Media Law, Media Ethics, Media Freedom and Censorship, International Communications, Comparative Media Systems, Mass Communications and Society, Developmental Journalism, New Technologies, Communication Development and Human Rights.
He holds a PhD in Journalism from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, USA, and a BTech in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
Bhaskar Bhatt – Visiting Faculty in Design
Bhaskar Bhatt is a professional with 14+ years of experience and diverse skill sets ranging from design thinking, systems dynamics, entrepreneurship and management. He was assistant professor of design at IIT Gandhinagar and a faculty member and coordinator of product design at the National Institute of Design (NID), as well as an adjunct professor at leading institutes in India. His career has spanned various roles in professional design practice, entrepreneurship, academics and research. He has been a research collaborator with Johns Hopkins University Baltimore and JHPIEGO, coordinating research projects on maternal and neonatal health. He has received research grants from United States and New Zealand and has published in Austria, Norway, Singapore and India. He is a member of the Steering Committee on Innovation, Goa Institute of Management and was previously a board member of VentureStudio, an incubator supported by Stanford University. He also serves on the advisory board of Xscire Technologies and 4DEA. He is currently a research associate, tutor and PhD candidate at Lincoln University, New Zealand.
David L Anderson – Visiting Professor of Journalism
David L. Anderson is a former daily newspaper copy editor, weekly newspaper editor and manager, newscaster, political reporter and public information officer. A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, he has served as faculty member at the University of Northern Colorado, University of Rhode Island and University of Texas at El Paso. Anderson served as director of student research in the landmark New England Daily Newspaper Survey, published as Evaluating the Press. He was honored by the Society of Professional Journalists of Rocky Mountain states for his work among students, reporters and editors and inducted into Kappa Tau Alpha at the University of Illinois for scholarly performance in the discipline.
Dr Ajay Mookerjee – Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship & Management
Dr Ajay Mookerjee is founder and executive director of Fair Square Financial and Digital Credit Partners, New York. Earlier he was Executive Vice President at SunTrust; Managing Director Asia at Capital One; Senior Executive & Vice President at AIG; Senior Vice President at GE Capital and Country Head and Principal and Booz Allen Hamilton. Dr Mookerjee hold a PhD in Business Administration from Harvard Business School, a post graduate diploma in management from IIM Calcutta, and a BTech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur.
Dr Shekhar Deshpande – Visiting Professor of Broadcasting & Film Studies
Dr Shekhar Deshpande is professor of media and communication at Arcadia University, Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA. His research interests include cinema studies, world cinema, visual cultures, critical theory and philosophy. He is author of Anthology Film and World Cinema (Bloomsbury, forthcoming, 2016) and World Cinema: A Critical Introduction, co-author with Prof. Meta Mazaj, (Routledge, forthcoming, 2016). Dr Deshpande holds a PhD from Southern Illinois University and a MSc in Broadcasting from the University of Tennessee.
R Sridharan – Visiting Faculty
Ramakrishnan “Sri” Sridharan is the co-founder & Editor-in-Chief of NyusuDigital Media Private Limited, a new age, mobile-only news video publisher. Earlier, he was the Managing Editor of ET NOW, India’s No. 1 business news channel. He was tapped by the Times Group to help launch the channel eight years ago. He took over as the editor of ET NOW in 2011, and in a short span of two years, made it the most-watched business news channel.
Prior to ET NOW, Sri was the Managing Editor of Business Today, part of the India Today group, where he spent 12 years. He was concurrently also the editor of Harvard Business Review South Asia, a fascimile edition of HBR.
Sri has also done a stint with The Washington Post in Washington, D.C., as the Alfred Friendly Fellow of 1999. He currently serves on the board of the US-based Alfred Friendly Press Partners.
Sri graduated from Delhi University with a Bachelor’s degree in English, and has attended the Executive General Management Programme at IIM Bangalore.
Anil Srivatsa – Visiting Faculty
Anil Srivatsa is CEO & Co-Founder of Radiowalla Network Private Limited. Earlier, he served as CEO of Kings XI Punjab and COO of Radio Today Broadcasting. He launched the first talk format FM Network across 7 Indian cities as Meow 104.8 FM.
Srivatsa served was co-founder and executive vice president of ImaginAsian Entertainment Inc., America’s first Asian American Cable TV Network and Movie Theater. He was Director of Marketing & PR at Reminiscent Television; Director of Cricket and Asian Programing at Kelly Broadcasting Systems; Producer/Host of “Anil Ki Awaaz” and “Between the Sheets,” America’s largest syndicated radio talk show for South Asians. (Limca Book of Records entry). He was Editor & Publisher of Blossom City, Bangalore’s first and only city Magazine. He is a member of Rotary International.
Srivatsa holds a bachelors degree in Journalism and Criminology and masters in Telecommunication from Kutztown University, Pennsylvania, USA.
Chaya Srivatsa – Visiting Faculty
Chaya Srivatsa started her career as lecturer in English in Mumbai. After a ten year tenure in academics, she moved to the corporate sector and worked in Advertising and Public Relations in premier organisations as a senior executive.
An independent journalist for over three decades, Chaya has over 2000 articles in leading publications. She has authored a coffee table book Pendrive and published and edited Bangalore’s first and only City magazine. Chaya has presented over 100 Programmes for AIR Bangalore and Mumbai and conceptualised and commissioned six radio stations for radiowalla.in. She has hosted 70 talk shows on radio as well as presented programmes on DD Mumbai and produced training videos for organisations. She has served as guest faculty at management colleges and as a corporate trainer.
Chaya has been awarded the outstanding woman PR professional award by PRSI Jaipur and Bangalore chapters; Pearl of Bangalore award for her contribution in the field of communication; and AWAKE award for her enterprise as publisher and Association of Business Communicators award for best institutional video.

Harvinderjit “Harry” Bhatia is Director & Co-Founder of Radiowalla Network Private Limited. He serves as CFO of Netmagic Solutions, an NTT Communications Company.
Previously, he was CFO of Entertainment Network India Ltd. (Radio Mirchi), a Times of India Group Company and CFO at Digicable, one of the largest media distribution platform companies in India.
Harry is a Charter Member of TiE Mumbai and a member of Rotary Interantional. He is a chartered accountant and holds a Executive Masters in International Trade from IIFT, Delhi and an Executive Management from Colmbia University Business School, New York, USA.

Prabhu Chawla is currently editorial director of the New Indian Express. Earlier, he was editor of language publications and editorial director at India Today. He hosts a weekly show Theekhi Baat on IBN7, one of the highest rated news shows on Indian TV. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2003.
